Olav Skår is an international energy executive and safety culture specialist with over 30 years of leadership experience spanning corporate governance, high-hazard risk management and organisational safety.
Olav completed an extensive international career with Shell, including a four-year secondment as Director of Health, Safety, Security and Wells for the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP). Drawing on this experience, he works with senior leaders to strengthen leadership capability and safety culture, and is a Program Director for executive development programmes at CEDEP and IILSC.
Alongside his executive education work, Olav is a Visiting Professor at the University of East London, where he chairs the External Advisory Committee for the Sustainable Occupational Health and Safety Research Centre. He is also an alumnus of INSEAD’s International Directors Programme.
Beyond his corporate and academic roles, Olav is President and Trustee of The Cooperation Band, one of Scotland’s leading brass orchestras, having first performed with the ensemble as a percussionist during his university days in Glasgow. His work in the arts reflects his wider interest in leadership, collaboration and organisational performance, and includes initiatives connecting musical performance with themes such as industrial change and the energy transition.
