The International Institute of Leadership & Safety Culture (IILSC) today [16 July 2025] welcomed a new Advisory Board of luminaries from the fields of safety, business and academia.
IILSC, a division of renowned global centre for executive education CEDEP, was launched in 2024 to address ‘the critical need for high impact leadership’ in workplace safety and health.
Advisory Board members will help steer the Institute’s strategic direction, as it looks to design and deliver world class programs, events and services that advance safety culture and leadership in organisations worldwide.
The Advisory Board members are: Dr. Andrew Sharman, Thomas Hinterseer, Rhona Flin, David Bryson, Rosa Antonia Carrillo, Dr E. Scott Geller, Iman Hill, Dr. Erik Hollnagel, Deborah Rowland, Ian Hudson, Paul Slovic and Dr. Sven Timm.
IILSC Chief Executive Officer and Advisory Board Chair Dr. Sharman said: “This is a truly exceptional group of leaders who will together be instrumental in ensuring the Institute has global impact, shaping the future of what safety culture and leadership look like. We have the foundations in place now to create something quite unique in the world of work, and as Chair and CEO I’m incredibly excited to be a part of it.”
The creation of the Institute was made possible by a combination of CEDEP initiatives and its acquisition of RMS and EHS Congress, both founded and led by Dr. Sharman. With a 50-year history in training leaders, CEDEP is supported by many of the world’s best-known businesses and organisations, including L’Oréal, Renault Group and Tata Steel, employing hundreds of thousands of people worldwide.
CEDEP Chairman of the Board Thomas Hinterseer said: “Our world is becoming increasingly complex and unpredictable, demanding greater resilience from businesses. Yet, evidence tells us that many employers are simply not doing enough to adequately safeguard the well-being of their workforce.
“Recognition of the urgent need for a more people-centric approach to business underpins the formation of the Institute. We believe that by collaborating and leveraging collective wisdom, we can revolutionise how organisations care for their people and contribute positively to the communities they serve. The new Advisory Board will play a central role in making this happen.”
IILSC is the new home for EHS Congress, the preeminent event in Berlin and London for leaders and senior practitioners in environment, health and safety. Its executive education offering features a blend of multi-company training programs, such as Leadership Through Health and Safety Culture (LHSC), and custom programs and workshops covering a wide range of topics.
IILSC’s consultancy services provides tailored solutions for a broad spread of companies and organisations, from multi-national, sector-leading PLCs to non-governmental organisations and academic institutions.
CEDEP Managing Director Christina Orisich said: “The Advisory Board arrives at an exciting time for IILSC. The Institute is building on the success over many years of a pioneer of executive education in CEDEP, but its formation is also very timely. We are responding to the urgent need for high impact leadership to drive a new era of progress in safety at work. This is why we’re confident IILSC will become an indispensable partner for professionals and organisations worldwide.”
Latest estimates released by the International Labour Organisation (ILO) point to a rising human toll at work, with nearly three million people dying each year from work-related accidents and diseases and many millions more affected by life and career-threatening injuries and illness.
Global shocks, such as the Covid-19 pandemic and wars in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, have disrupted supply chains and forced significant change on businesses and organizations across every sector of industry. IILSC believes high impact leadership is vital to safeguard the safety and health of people at work during such times of uncertainty and change. However, a survey by the Institute of senior leaders has found that 60% of those interviewed have been incapable of having a guiding role in safety.
IILSC Chief Operating Officer Bertrand Gibert said: “We are now talking to leaders from a wide range of industry sectors who are telling us that there is a requirement for an organisation like the Institute. We are encouraged by the early, positive feedback from program alumni and EHS Congress attendees, and we look forward to working with the Advisory Board and our growing network to shape a continually improving value proposition.”
